About The Porsche 911 Turbo
The street going version of the Porsche 911 Turbo dates back to 1975. The turbocharged race cars were earlier and go back to the late 1960s. The model was known by a few names depending on the year and market where it was sold. For example, 911 Turbo, Turbo Carrera and 930 are the main ones. It goes without saying that the 911 has an air cooled, rear engined flat six engine. This made it a unique combination back then and much of it has been retained in the current models. The air cooling was swapped for water cooling in 1999 with the release of the 996 models.
This is a car that along with perhaps the Lamborghini Countach was on many young boy’s bedroom walls and a few girls too. There were plenty of wall posters to choose from at the time. Perhaps the predecessor to these Porsche car NFTs!
This Porsche NFT is called the Porsche 911 Turbo and perhaps the best description. Initially it had a 3 litre engine that was increased to 3.3 litres for the 1978 model year. This was achieved with a small increase of 2mm to the bore. They added an air to air intercooler at the same time. Power increased from 191kW to 221kW and torque from 329Nm to 412Nm. One of the easiest ways to spot the difference is the change to the whale tail. It was redesigned to accommodate the intercooler and the black rubber edging was made more pronounced.
Further changes were made in 1983 and power increased to 243kW and torque to 432Nm. This version wasn’t available in all markets because of emissions requirements.
The last model year for the G-body Porsche 911 was 1989 and this also meant the end of the 911 Turbo or 930 model. For that year it received the G50 five speed gearbox.
